You gotta hear this one…

Ok, you gotta read this one, but you get the point.

I talked to a someone today who is leaving for a new job, a new adventure…following dreams, but very concrete dreams.

In our conversation it came out that I had said something about writing goals down a few years ago that caused some reflection.

That reflection became thoughts which became action in the form of goals being written down.

Those goals turned into visible reminders and invisible ones too that propelled further action in terms of a definable action plan which is really a series of small decisions that push one forward creating energy and momentum as you go.

We never know the impact our words and actions have on others.  Ever.

I saw what happened when we wrote goals down as a family…yes, every New Year’s Eve.  It was a tradition, but a very important one.

I saw how those goals helped each of us focus and achieve.

I used the question, ‘Are we doers or viewers?’ many times with the boys.

ie, Are we going to watch life go by or be actively engaged and help others along the way.

Seeing the impact Chris continues to have shows how much you can influence…even in a short 17 years.

We still see a stream of comments on his Facebook page and we know his words and actions are still inspiring many today, young and old….er.

I know it’s not quite New Year’s…but if you have goals that you’ve thought about in your head for a long time but that’s where they’ve stayed, I’d challenge you to write them down.

You’ll be amazed at the results.

June 2011

June 2011 was one of those points in time that I knew was coming.

I didn’t really want it to get here.

But like a train whistle on a quiet night heard from miles away, I knew the train called time was on the track and couldn’t be stopped.

What’s the big deal with June?

It’s another major milestone.

Chris would have graduated from High School this month.  That’s a big deal because it meant the next steps of the bigger plan which included lacrosse, university and of course the doorway to the rest of his life.

We drove by a grad ceremony last week quite by accident.  It wasn’t from his high school…in fact it was in another city.  It did not take long for emotions to be on high alert.

This is just part of the journey and journey we will.

Bri (centre) with friends.

Now, there is a very great side of June that we welcome with huge and open hearts.

Chris’ friends will graduate soon and there will be more on that topic in another post, but Chris had a very close cousin named Brianna who graduated last night.  We were able to meet up with her and get some pictures and talk with her before the big ceremony.  To say we are proud is a complete understatement.

This is a young woman who is beautiful both inside and out.  She is as smart as a whip taking home multiple awards and trophies last night.  As Bri enters her next chapter of life, we would say these profound words….YOU GO GIRL!!

Dream your dreams.  Write down your visions.  Turn them into measurable goals and get to work in making it all come true.

Now as an addendum to this, as we were waiting to connect with Bri, a young couple came walking across the parking lot.  It was sort of like a dream sequence.  This young couple was my Mom and Dad.  The last time I saw them together, I was wheeling Dad in a hospital chair from one floor to another (yes, via elevator!) to see Mom who was also in the hospital.  To see them walking towards us looking as svelte as ever was nothing short of a miracle I would say.  I’ve taken a few pictures so you can judge for yourself.

Have a great and SAFE weekend!

Anyone ever give you a pig?

So I got a pig a couple of weeks back.

Yup, a pig.

Now, not a real live pig, but a real pig just the same.

I love the pig.

In fact, he now has a home right beside my computer where most of these blog posts are written.

To understand the pig, you must see the pig.  Notice anything different about this pig?  If you said it’s made of wood, that’s a good start.  It has a ribbon around its neck.  Good.  Perhaps the wings on the pig’s back?  YES….with tongue firmly in cheek…if you said, this pig had wings, THAT is exactly what is different than most traditional pigs…wooden or otherwise.

The coolest thing about this pig however, is the medal it is wearing around his neck.

It says, Believe pigs can fly And they will grow wings.

I LOVE THAT!

Sometimes to conquer what seems like insurmountable odds, something very special needs to occur.

Occasionally pigs need to grow wings.

I love this pig.

Thanks ‘you know who you are’ for giving it to me and reminding us all about the power of believing the impossible.

Love it.
